What to watch

A Wildcat Reunion!

While the Wizards employ a Mount Rushmorian Kentucky alum in John Wall, the Suns will be trotting out four of their former contingents of John Calipari’s progeny in Devin Booker, Tyler Unis, Brandon Knight, and of course Eric Bledsoe.

Wall versus Bledsoe has always been fun to watch. There was this play where Bledsoe froze Wall on his way to the basket:

There was also the time where John Wall’s mauling defense got him the ball away from Bledsoe and led to a fast break dunk:

We all know Wall embraces anything remotely involving Kentucky Basketball, and he certainly cherishes his matchups against any of his former teammates. Tonight, not only will he revisit his friendly rivalry with Bledsoe, but he’ll also get to show the other younger ‘Cats’ he’s the real Rupp Arena vet.

Key Matchup

The #HouseOfGuards vs. Inconsistency

Okay so we’re definitely past the point of fretted hopelessness in waiting for the Wizards backcourt to become the dominating tandem they’re expected – and in Brad Beal’s case specifically, PAID – to be, especially after their combined 68-point performance (they each scored 34 points). Albeit in a loss, Wall and Beal displayed all the glam we’ve been yearning to see from them, each attempting over 20 shots and Wall dropping 8 dimes as well.

The time for these two to develop some sort of consistent pattern of domination, and more importantly to really get on the same page mentally, is NOW. Those 68 combined points they poured in against Miami should come easy for both players on any night given their talents. But it’s the mental element, the chemistry between the two that will develop the consistency they need to become a real threat. The Wizards are in dire need of a jolt, and John Wall is in dire need of some help. Now that Brad has gotten past his annual injury bump, it’s time for him to earn his money and offer him some.

3-Point Defense.

The Suns are tied for last in the league in percentage of 3-point makes. The Wizards are second to last in the league by just a fraction of a margin in opponents percentage of 3-point makes. Who will be most advantageous of their opponents’ supreme flaw?

Fun Factor:

This happened just under a year ago: Markieff the Sun getting T’d up for a delay of game over lane positioning during a free throw attempt. Also: Ryan Hollins. Yuck.

John Wall, host of tonight’s prestigious Wildcat Reunion, disrespects his guests and fellow alumni with a dominating night, and not even offering dessert. Not quite sure if esteemed guest Bradley Beal will show up. Wizards win an ugly one.
