What to watch

The Wizards trying not to bury themselves in the Eastern Conference cellar.

A loss tonight and a Heat win would officially deem them the worst team in the East. A loss tonight, a Heat win and a Pelicans win tomorrow would officially deem them the worst team in the National Basketball Association. Ten games into the season, this is where we are. Thanks Ernie.

Key Matchup

Otto vs. Melo

Historically, this has been an unfavorable matchup for Otto, but this time around may be different considering the “breakout” of a season Otto has had so far. Matching up against a star who’s torched him in seasons past is an adequate litmus test that’ll measure just how good Otto is this season.

To sum up Otto’s season thus far, let’s just say it’s been pretty good. In 10 games he’s recorded four double-doubles with whopping rebound totals of 13, 13, 14, and 13. He’s averaging just under 9 rebounds per game to supplement his 15.3 points per game. The Wizards had plans for Otto to become an all-purpose wing, something that is seemingly coming into fruition this season.

In his 13th season now, Carmelo is milking whatever offensive firepower he has left and based on his production through 11 games, he’s got plenty of it left. Usually chalked up as a volume shooter, Melo is actually producing some of his best shooting numbers since becoming a Knick, shooting the ball from the field at a 47% clip and a decent 35% from downtown.

Kontaining Kristaps.

Kristaps has averaged 20 points in his last two outings against the Wizards. Tonight, he’ll be fresh off a career-high 35 points he dropped on Detroit last night. And just how the hell do the Wizards plan to limit a 7 foot 3 stretch forward? The partially immobile Gortat? The lazy close-out defender Markieff? Failing to figure this out will be disastrous.

Fun Factor:

From the New York Daily News, Kristaps Porzingis unhinged:

The Wizards remain unhinged.
