Kings (7-10) at Wizards (5-10)

November 28, 2016 at 7:00 PM
Verizon Center, Washington, DC
TV: CSN Mid-Atlantic
Radio: 1500 AM

Last time they met was..

March 31, 2016 – Sleep Train Arena, Sacramento: Kings 120, Wizards 111

What to watch

Comcast SportsNet.

Here’s a few trends:

  • The Kings have won 3 of their last 4.
  • The Wizards have won 2 of their last 3.
  • The Wizards are 4-5 at home.
  • The Kings are 3-5 on the road.

I know none of those trends are particularly impressive. That’s because neither of these teams are particularly impressive. However, both teams have been showing signs of incremental improvement in the last 10 games. The Kings (7-10) are 5-5 in their last 10 games, while the Wizards are a slightly worse 4-6 in their last 10, with a slightly worse overall record. Basically this is an even match-up between to equally below average teams.

So turn on CSN! Because when things are all even, give the edge to the home team!

Key Matchup

John Wall vs. Turnovers

Wall is averaging 10 assists assists to just 3 turnovers in wins. He’s averaging 8 assists to 5 turnovers in losses. Sometimes it’s simple. When Wall takes care of the ball, the Wizards are more likely to win.

That was boring….

Key Match-up:

John Wall vs Scott Brooks!

Scott Brooks called out John Wall after the Raptors loss, calling Wall the team’s worst defender of the game, “by far.” Good luck to the Kings ball handlers tonight. They’re about to face peak John Wall on the defensive end tonight, and we know from history, peak John Wall on defense does things and makes faces like this:

Bradley Beal.

Bradley Beal’s 2016-2017 Splits:

Home: 23 PPG, 45% FG, 40% 3FG
Road: 14 PPG, 38% FG, 24% 3FG

This is the kind of home vs. road discrepancy we expect from rookies and role players. This is not acceptable from a max player. Tonight’s game is at home, so that is good. But 41 Wizards games are on the road, so this is bad.

Step it up Brad!

Fun Factor:

Fantasy Basketball. This is fun in two ways. First, if you have John Wall and/or DeMarcus Cousins on your fantasy basketball team, then this game (and this season) should be pretty fun. Wall is putting up 24-9-4, with career highs in scoring and shooting percentage. Boogie is putting up 28-9-3 amd shooting 41% from three! These guys are Fantasy Studs.

Secondly, if you like fantasizing about teams and trades and players playing together (as we all do here in DC!) this is the fantasy pairing for you! They played together at Kentucky. They play for average to below average teams. Theyve been toiling for years unsuccessfully, and could maybe benefit from a change of scenery. Neither one is going anywhere, most likely. But we can always dream.

Wizards improve to .500 at home, courtesy of another 30+ point performance from Bradley Beal.
