What to watch..

Two teams in transition: Both the Wizards and Kings look much different now than a season ago, and are likely to look much different a few months from now. We know about the Wizards, and their transition to an up tempo, pace and space team, and the bumps that have come with it.

The Kings are also going through a bumpy transition of their own, though things have started to smooth in the last few weeks. New coach George Karl, new Point Guard Rajon Rondo, and old, temperamental, super talented Demarcus Cousins have started to gel, and the results are beginning to show. The Kings are 5-5 in the last 10 games, and have clawed to within 1 game of the eight spot in the West. Like the Wizards, every game already matters, every win feels big, and every loss feels small.

Key matchup

John Wall vs Rajon Rondo. Rajon Rondo has risen from the dead of late, and he’s starting to play the type of basketball that impacts games. He’s always been able to put up stats, even when playing poorly, but his stats have started to matter again. He’s had four triple doubles this season, leads the league in assists at 11.2 per game, and is shooting 36% from three point range. Yes, the same Rajon Rondo is shooting 36% from three point range!

John Wall has to win this match up, and he should, as he’s been putting up astronomical numbers himself as of late. He’s averaging 25 points-11 assists-5 rebounds in December, and looking like an All-Star once again.

Wall needs to be magical. Rondo needs to be royal. The one is best will come out victorious.

X-factor:

Eastern Conference Dominance? Overall, the Eastern conference has done very well against the West head-to-head this season, a big change from years past. The Kings however have not followed suit. They are 7-4 against this East, compared to just 4-12 against the West. The Wizards are also sticking to previous years trends, going 8-7 against the East, but just 3-7 against the West.

For any individual game, this shouldn’t matter. But there’s definitely a trend, which makes it an x-factor.

Fun factor:

Boogie!! Whenever Boogie Cousins is involved, he is the fun factor. That’s just my rule. Already this season, he’s been suspended for elbowing Al Horford.

And it’s his whole entourage! Look at his manager slapping at Jason Terry.

You just never know what’s going to happen when Demarcus Cousins is involved. Which makes him fun!

Prediction:

Wizards improve to 4-7 against the West. Wall and Rondo both fall just shy of triple doubles.
