Last time they met was..

December 21, 2016 – United Center, Chicago: Wizards 107, Bulls 97

What to watch:

Home court advantage.

Remember when the Wizards struggled early this season with a 3-9 start? With the way they’ve been playing lately, it all seems to be a distant memory especially on their home floor where the Wizards have won their last nine games. Tonight, they go for 10 straight, which will be their longest home winning streak since that magical 2006-07 season when there was this guy nicknamed “Agent Zero”. The last loss at home came on Dec. 6th when John Wall dropped 52 points. The Wizards are 14-6 at Verizon Center this season as the home schedule reaches the halfway point.

Key Matchup:

Marcin Gortat vs. Robin Lopez.

It’ll be a battle between the big centers tonight. Gortat has fared well against Chicago, averaging 16 points and 12.5 rebounds in their two meetings this season. The Bulls are tops in the league when it comes to boards and Gortat has reached double digits in the rebounding category for the last seven games. With Jimmy Butler and Dwayne Wade out tonight, the Bulls will lean more towards their center.

The boards.

As mentioned in the last bullet point, the Bulls are a good rebounding team. Actually a great one; Chicago leads the NBA in offensive rebounding at 30.1. Prior to their game last night, they have grabbed at least 10 offensive rebounds in 10 straight games, which was the longest active streak in the league. They also lead the NBA with 16.2 second chance points per game. The Wizards must crash the boards tonight.

Fun Factor:

We miss Gilbert Arenas and in hindsight, the Wizards have been known to give the Bulls problems for over a decade. 2006-07 was a magical year until the clock struck midnight and Cinderella couldn’t find her glass slipper but this buzzer beater was the first clutch moment before he earned that nickname.

Wizards continue to roll and a win tonight over the Bulls will start to turn heads around the league.
