RECAP: Defenseless in DC: Wizards On The Wrong Side Of A Shootout; Lose To Heat 114-111

What to watch:

A winnable road game?

The Wizards are bad. But the Miami Heat are worse. Currently on a 5-game skid, the Heat return to Biscayne Bay presumably weary after three brutal road losses. Here’s how those losses went: They were taken down by the Hawks in Atlanta, a game in which they trailed by 17 points at one point. That was followed up by a complete decimation at the hands of the Cavs in Cleveland. And finally, they rounded out their hellish trip with a fitting loss to Dywane Wade and his Chicago Bulls.

Conversely, the Wizards arrive to South Florida riding a lukewarm 2-game winning streak after beating the Nuggets and Bucks at home. After the embarrassing Magic loss, Scott Brooks described his team as being unfamiliar with several basketball principles including the basic concepts of defending. The Wizards responded to their coach’s criticism with lock-down defense late in games against both Denver and Milwaukee.

Will the Wizards ride their momentum and take advantage of an emotionally depleted Heat team? Or will this be a classic case of #SoWizards reigniting hope in a struggling team?

Key Matchup:

A struggling road team versus a struggling home team.

The situation for the Miami Heat is similar to that of a guy who goes away on a disheartening business trip where all his pitches were refuted and no deals were made, only to return home to a nagging wife and a flooded basement. The Heat, going 0-3 on their small road trip, come back home to the AmericanAirlines Arena where they’ve only won 2 of 10 games. Whereas the Wizards are 2-7 on the road and I’m not exactly sure they’ll be up for the task of role playing a nagging wife.

Miami injuries.

From the Heat-Bulls box score:

Tonight, the Heat may be without Luke Babbitt again (upgraded to questionable), but will for sure be without Dion Waiters and Justice Winslow. That means they’ll have some guy named Rodney McGruder starting in their backcourt again. Wall and Beal may be smelling blood already.

Fun Factor:

John Wall is in Miami tonight, so here’s a commemorating throwback shot of him hanging with DJ Khaled (and Swizz Beats) in 2011.

The Wizards play the nagging spouse; Beal floods the arena with 3’s; Wizards win their third road game of the season.
