Game Notebook 36, Wizards at Bulls: John Wall The Matador, And Another Killing Of the Bulls

What to watch

The Jimmy Butler-less Chicago Bulls.

Without, Jimmy Butler, the Bulls still have a lot of weapons. They’ve been playing faster of late, and E’twan Moor has stepped in for Butler and been playing very well. The young guys are also playing well. Doug McDermott has been shooting really well recently, and Bobby Portis has been playing with a lot of energy. Derrick has been playing at a high level too.

I just paraphrased John Wall’s post game comments about the Bulls from last night. If that’s what he’s watching for, so should you.

Key Matchup

John Wall vs. Derrick Rose

Don’t look now, but look now:

In February:

D-Rose: 22 PPG, 6 RPG, 6 APG, 44% FG
John Wall: 21 PPG, 7 RPG, 10 APG, 43% FG

John Wall is undoubtedly the superior player right now, but Rose has been slowwwwwly improving. He’s nowhere near his MVP prime, but he’s also much better than he was the last time these teams played. Look for Rose to take this match-up personally, and play aggressive and in attack mode. This could result in a stellar performance, or an ugly turnover spewing disaster. If Wall locks in on D, it should be the latter.

The Jimmy Butler Slack Fillers.

After struggling initially without Butler, the Bulls have been much better since the All-star break. Here are the main reasons:

Doug McBuckets: 16 PPG, 57% 3PT
E’twan Moore: 13 PPG, 63% 3PT
Mike Dunleavy: 9 PPG, 50% 3PT

That’s 38 points points per game on 🔥🔥🔥% shooting from three. This group must be stopped.

Fun Factor:

The Matadorian dominance of the Chicago Bulls.

The Wizards have won 6 of their last 7 games at the United Center (including the 2014 playoffs).

Benny the Bull quits and resorts to carrying around “eat mor chikin” signs after another DC smack down.
