Hoop District Video Diaries: Wizards vs. Celtics, 1-16-2016

Oh, the agony. The torment. The anguish. The Washington Wizards.

The brilliance of John Wall in its utmost manner – 36 points, 13 assists, 7 rebounds, and 7 steals – was on full exhibit for the Verizon Center crowd on Saturday night, but ultimately would be all for naught, as he came up just one game-tying layup short of full god status.

The Wizards lost their third game against the Celtics this season, and although their previous two losses were by a combined 53 points, this was unquestionably burned the most.

Our Will Davidson was on site for all the drama. Here’s his visual recap:

  1. The Video Diary is great – Well-produced, efficient summary, etc.  I hope to see more of these.
I liked the article too, but before we deify John Wall we need to recognize that he led the team that has lost all 3 matchups against the Celtics.  The Celtics blew out the Wizards twice, and racked up 119 points in a 3rd victory (during which the opposing, relatively unheralded point guard matched Wall almost point for point).  You have to play both sides of the ball – And John Wall’s Wizards are not playing good defense this season.
I am a loyal fan and staunch supporter of the Wizards.  But I am first a fan of the sport and my vision is not clouded by my Bullets/Wizards fanship.  The Celtics are well on their way to being one of the new NBA East teams in the playoffs, replacing the Wizards.  The Celtics lack a maximum contract star like John Wall, but they are simply a better team than the Wizards.  And the Celtics are also better positioned than the Wizards going forward beyond this season – While the Wizards have few assets to trade, the Celtics are loaded with draft picks and assets to trade.
