Sweep the leg Johnny!

The New York Knickerbockers brought their traveling tank show to the Verizon Center on Friday night while the Wizards of Washington were looking to put together a two-game winning streak to close out their four-game home stand. The Knicks, on paper, made it easy for the Wizards putting out a lineup of Lou Amundson, Lance Thomas, Andrea Bargnani, Langston Galloway and Shane Larkin. But like the Wizards tend to do, they played with the Knicks like ants under a magnifying glass in the sun and kept things interesting throughout the game with leads as high as 22 (30-8) at one point when Point Gawd John Wall left the floor in the first quarter.

Otto Porter Jr. took advantage of another night off for future Hall of Fame forward Paul Pierce and continues to tease Wizards fans with stellar play over the last few games. It’s quite easy to see that Wall benefits immensely from having a wing who can get up and down the court with the type of pace #WallStar likes to play with.

Nobody from this site is ready to crown Otto as the next coming but it is nice to see the #3 pick from the 2013 NBA draft look like things are coming together.

Imagine – What if Otto Porter Jr. has just been marinating like a fine NY strip steak all this time and it was all part of Ernie and Randy’s plan? More on food in a second.

Back to reality now…

The law firm of Gooden, Porter and Wall performed well together from the get-go and then with every opportunity Randy Wittman had, he got them running together throughout the game. The trio combined for 32 points, 23 rebounds, 21 assists and 4 steals. Not too shabby for a couple of last minute replacements playing alongside the Wizards’ franchise point guard.

The hardest part about games against inferior teams is not buying into the hype of how good you may look that night and keeping the same level of basketball efficiency going in the following game. Despite allowing the Knicks to stick around in the second quarter, Washington was able to quickly squash New York’s advances with the trio of Gooden, Porter and Wall. I firmly believe had the Wizards allowed John the chance to play out some more minutes the Wizards/Bullets assist record could have fallen. The Wizards lone All-Star ended the first half with 11 assists and his teammates left about three on the floor.
